Career Related Program Affirms Equivalency To HSSC Science Group

Pakistan’s Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Ministry of Education, has officially recognised the Career-Related Program (CP) as equivalent to the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) science subjects (pre-medical/pre-engineering group).

Students with a secondary school certificate or an equivalent qualification will be able to study the CP.

“We are delighted with the news that the CP is now officially recognised for both humanities and science groups across Pakistan. This recognition expands opportunities for CP students in Pakistan to attend higher education institutions such as medical and engineering schools,” said Uzma Shujaat, IB’s Regional Manager for Pakistan.

The CP is designed specifically for students aged 16 to 19 who want to engage in career-related learning while also gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.

The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) which is under the Ministry of Education has officially recognized the International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related Program (CP) as equivalent to the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) science subjects (pre-medical/pre-engineering group).

This means that students who successfully complete the CP program and pass the required exams will be considered to have met the educational requirements for university entrance in Pakistan for programs in the pre-medical or pre-engineering fields.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-Related Program (CP) is a programme that is intended for students who wish to combine the academic rigour of the IB Diploma Program with practical, career-related experiences.

The three-part framework of the CP consists of at least two Diploma Programme (DP) courses, the distinctive CP core, and a career-related study.

A CP student is valued by universities around the world for a variety of reasons, including their ability to manage a challenging and varied workload while also bringing the appropriate level of academic knowledge and understanding. The CP is equivalent to the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Humanities and Science Groups) in Pakistan.

The CP provides students with a broad-based education in the humanities, sciences, and mathematics while also providing them with the opportunity to explore specific career-related fields through vocational training, internships, or similar experiences.
