Need to Establish Public Health Department In Universities

Governor Punjab has stated that the “Endowment Fund” should be used for infrastructural development of the institution, building new laboratories, and research, emphasising the need for the establishment of department of public health and family medicine in all of the province’s universities.

He was speaking to a delegation from the Fatima Jinnah Medical College Alumni Association of North America, led by vice-chancellor Khalid Masood Gondal, who was visiting Governor House.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor stated that the government’s top priority is the rehabilitation of flood victims. “Bringing flood victims out of the psychological effects of the floods is an important aspect of rehabilitation,” he said, adding that “the Prime Minister visited flood-affected areas during the flood days and supervised relief activities.” “The PM’s recent announcement to build houses for the flood victims with funds worth billions of rupees is a great initiative.”

The governor insisted that as chancellor, he also mobilised the universities for flood relief and rehabilitation. He expressed gratitude to the universities for their contributions to relief efforts in flood-affected areas.

Dr. Faiza Zahid Rafiq, President of the Fatima Jinnah Medical College Alumni Association of North America, highlighted the alumni association’s contributions to the construction of more than 80 houses, a community centre, and a dispensary for flood victims.

Meanwhile, the governor, who is also the chancellor, has directed the vice chancellors of all universities in the province to ensure that salaries for the month of December 2022 are paid to employees from the Christian community of the universities before 25th December 2022.

A department of public health and family medicine can provide education and training for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. This can help to ensure that there is a well-trained and qualified workforce to meet the healthcare needs of the community.

By establishing a department of public health and family medicine, universities can help to increase access to healthcare for underserved populations. This can be particularly important in rural or low-income areas, where access to healthcare may be limited.
