Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formally laid the groundwork for a number of projects totaling Rs 3.23 billion under the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase-II, on Wednesday.
CM Inaugurates Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formally inaugurated the newly established Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences at the University of Peshawar (UoP) and laid the groundwork for a number of projects totaling Rs 3.23 billion under the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase-II, on Wednesday. The Chief Minister also kicked off construction on the Agriculture University’s Technology Development Center in Peshawar.

The University of Peshawar’s Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences has been completed at a cost of Rs 180 million. The Institute currently has two academic programmes, M.Sc. in Criminology and BS in Criminology, with a total enrollment of 274 students, while new academic programmes, including Ph.D and MS/MPhil Criminology, Diplomas in Forensic Criminal Investigation, and Cyber Security, are set to begin.

The Chief Minister formally laid the groundwork for the Hayatabad Trail as part of the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase-II, which is expected to cost Rs 1.22 billion. A 6 km long Bicycle & Walking Track, as well as service areas at five different locations, would be established as part of the project.

Green belt, plantation, public toilets, tuck shops, gazebos, futsal field, basketball, volleyball, and Badminton Courts, Outdoor Gym, and a Roller Skating Rink are also part of the project.

Similarly, the Chief Minister formally performed the groundbreaking of a project regarding the construction and beautification of University Road, University Town, and Palosai Road to Peshawar Zoo.

The project would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 160.95 million, under which multiple construction and uplift activities have been planned, including Markhor Square, Iqra Square, the walkway in front of the town market, the beautification of Park Avenue Road to the Iran Consulate, and the Palosai Road Intersection at University Road.

The University of Peshawar serves not only the academic needs of Peshawar but also the entire province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The university is distinguished by its highly qualified and trained faculty, student-friendly and supportive administration, modern curricula, conductive academic environment, and excellent infrastructure.

Its importance in political, industrial, and government leadership is acknowledged. The university has made a significant contribution to bringing about positive changes in society.
