Karandaaz Pakistan has partnered with GrowTech Services to facilitate digitalized, data-driven, scientific-based agriculture practises and financial inclusion in the agricultural value chain, according to a statement issued on Monday.
Karandaaz said it had committed a grant to GrowTech Services under its ‘Pilot to Scale’ programme to test the impact of digitisation of traditional agricultural value chain on two different crops.
The project would include the creation of an e-commerce portal that would connect farmers and bulk buyers, as well as the integration of the GrowTech app and e-commerce platform with various payment gateways.
The collaboration aims to increase app adoption among farmers and promote the use of digital payments via the e-commerce platform.
“Pakistan seriously lags behind its peers in farm productivity,” CEO Karandaaz Waqas ul Hasan said on the occasion. We must approach complex agricultural value chains from all possible points of intervention.”
He stated that farmers were hesitant to adopt digital payments and technology in general due to the often-complicated procedures involved. As a result, their productivity and income have remained low, according to Hasan.
GrowTech Services co-founder Shahnawaz Mahmood stated that their goal was to improve per-acre yield by increasing productivity and decreasing input costs for farmers. “We work with farmers throughout the crop cycle. We are excited to collaborate with Karandaaz to improve agricultural commerce through better price discovery and to promote digital payments in this sector while providing farmer training.”
In the future, he believes it will be beneficial to create innovative credit scoring models based on new data points. The project aims to assist in resolving issues caused by traditional agricultural value chains.
