FJWU Hosts Conference To Strengthen Research Capacity

The Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) hosted the second international conference on strengthening teaching and research capacity. The conference is supported by the US government through the US-Pakistan University Partnerships Grants Program, which is managed by the US Educational Foundation in Pakistan.

Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and conference patron, acknowledged the role of the US government in maintaining bilateral relationships in education and research at the higher education level during the conference’s opening ceremony.

She stated that the United States Education Foundation’s collaborative stance in Pakistan was extremely beneficial and played a critical role in enhancing the research capacity building of universities in Pakistan. Sharam Niazi, Program Officer for the University Partnerships Grants Programme, elaborated on the program’s contribution to university faculty training across Pakistan.

Dr. Aneela Maqsood, the conference’s chief organizer, briefed the audience on the conference’s thematic focus, which included teaching and research pedagogy, cross-border collaborative research, action research models, quantitative and qualitative applied social science research, teaching and assessment methodologies, classroom management strategies, integrating technology in classrooms, social connectedness through media, and mental health in academic institutions.

The conference themes will not only hold attendees’ attention and keep them engaged and energised, but they will also meet their expectations to learn something new and different.

Prof. Mike Hirsch, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Huston-Tillotson University in the United States, gave the keynote address on engaging undergraduate students in research as part of innovative teaching pedagogy.
