Clean Energy, A Priority Area Of China-Pakistan Bilateral Cooperation

Pakistan participated in the International Forum for Energy Transition 2022 which was held in the Chinese capital, with wide participation from across the world.

Addressing the Forum, the federal minister spoke at length about Pakistan’s vulnerabilities to climate change and enhanced focus on effective climate mitigation and adaptation. He highlighted the government’s priority of transitioning into clean and green energy in order to save costs and protect the environment.

Federal Minister for Energy, represented Pakistan at the forum while the Chinese government was represented by Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng who delivered remarks at the event, according to a press release issued here. Federal Minister for Energy briefed the audience on the 10,000 MW solar initiative by Prime Minister, the initial bidding for which will be opened in a few months.

Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng underlined the need for efforts to accelerate transition into clean and green energy and highlighted China’s achievements in promoting the green and low-carbon energy transition and addressing global climate change. Clean energy also remains to be a priority area of China-Pakistan bilateral cooperation including under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

China is now the world’s largest investor in clean energy, however, its rapid growth over the past four decades has also resulted in it becoming its largest consumer of energy, too. China is investing vast resources into the development of clean energy, building groundbreaking facilities with new technologies and constructing clean, low carbon, safe and energy efficient systems to actively move towards a more sustainable system.

Green, clean energy plays an important role in improving energy structures, protecting the environment, achieving sustainable economic and social development and meeting carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. In the process of promoting clean energy and low carbonization, China has been accelerating its pace, building the world’s largest clean power generation system, becoming an important force in promoting global clean energy development and committing to making green, affordable electricity truly accessible to millions of households.
