The Indus Motors Company, Pakistan has announced to launch of its first locally-assembled vehicle in 2023.

The model, Toyota corolla cross is the first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) assembled locally by the company. Moreover, this news was shared by the CEO of IMC Mr. Ali Asghar Jamali at the 6th Journalists Summit 2022. Likewise, the statement said;

“We are planning to launch our first-ever locally-assembled HEV SUV – Toyota Corolla Cross by 2023. Continuing the legacy of ‘Make in Pakistan’ philosophy, Toyota has already invested $100 million to produce HEVs in Pakistan.”

Furthermore, the price range of the new model was also revealed, which is said to be between Rs 5 million to 7 million depending on the political and economic uncertainty in the country. However, the final price of the vehicle is yet to be announced.

Features of Corolla Cross

The new model, the Corolla Hybrid is a five-seater compact crossover with dimensions of 4460 x 1825 x 1620 mm and a wheelbase of 2640 mm. Likewise, the minimum turning radius of the tire: the body is 5.2:5.5 m and the vehicle incorporates a large fuel tank capacity of almost 36 liters. In addition to an intriguing shape and body, the vehicle has an excellent engine performance with a 2ZR-FXE (Hybrid) engine and a displacement of 1798cc. moreover, the new Toyota cross has an efficient engine motor power of 53kW and drive modes of Power and ECO.

Additionally, the new model has some excellent exterior and interior specifications. The model is set to come in the two most distinct and attractive colors; red and silver. Similarly, the vehicle has 17” alloy rims with a tire size of 215/60 R17. The features of the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) with the curtain type LED, and windshield wiper control for front and rear mirrors attracts customers.

Moving on, the interior of the model is based on comfort and excellent driving experience. The specifications like front seat adjuster, moon roof, climate control, cruise control, and 8” entertainment System adds more to the elegance of the model.

Furthermore, the Toyota cross hybrid comes with certain safety features such as Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and hill start assist. Likewise, airbags are also embedded in the vehicle for drivers’ and passengers’ safety.

Conclusively, the introduction of hybrid technology would not only add a new dimension to localization in Pakistan but would also benefit the country in terms of forex savings and reduction of the fuel import bill. Likewise, the incorporation of EVs in our local auto industry can effectively help in the reduction of carbon emissions and global warming.
