PCRWR Regional Office, Lahore has launched NWQMP report 2021 titled “Drinking Water Quality in Pakistan: Current Status and Challenges”

PCRWR has launched NWQMP


Regional Director PCRWR Lahore, Mr. Faakhar Raza welcomed the audience and gave an overview of Pakistan’s water challenges. He highlighted the issues related to water quality, pricing, waterborne diseases, climate change impacts and emphasized to address these issues by implantation of laws and policies related to water.


Dr. Hifza Rasheed, DG Water Quality PCRWR presented the findings on the current status of the drinking water quality in 29 cities of four provinces, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. She mentioned the causes of slow paced improvement in this regard and the way forward.
Ms. Farah Naz, Research Officer PCRWR presented the findings on water quality for Punjab province and highlighted that the main contaminations in drinking water in Punjab were related to bacteria, arsenic, fluorides, TDS and Nitrates.
The Chief Guest, Chairman, Aab-e-Pak Authority, Dr. Shakeel Khan in his remarks mentioned that Aab-e-pak Authority is formed to provide safe water to the needy people of semi urban areas. He appreciated the work done by PCRWR and stressed for the joint work plan for next nine years to meet the SDG goals (2030).
Afterwards, NWQMP Report 2020-21 was launched by the Dr. Shakeel Khan, Dr. Hifza Rasheed and Mr. Faakhar Raza.
