A pilot solar energy project has been implemented in two schools in Oman’s Dhahira governorate in the towns of Ibri and Yanqul.

The two schools that have earned the unique distinction of having implemented this renewable energy project are Fatima Bint Qais School for Basic Education in Ibri and Al Ala bin Al Hadrami Basic Education School in Yanqul.

These two schools form part of the project that covers a total of 22 schools in the Sultanate. The power production of this project is estimated to contribute up to 50 per cent of each school’s need in kilowatts.

Joint collaboration

The venture is a joint collaboration between Ministry of Education and Small and Medium Enterprises, along with Shell and Naflah energy.

The supervisor of the project Engineer Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al Maamari from the General Directorate of Education in Dhahirah Governorate, said that the project aims to impart hand-on knowledge and practical application of renewable energy to students. Besides of course, utilizing the abundant source of renewable solar energy project.

Mohammed added that the project will aid Oman in keeping pace with global trends in the exploitation of environmentally friendly renewable energy, which contribute to the exploitation of available resources on the one hand, and the preservation of the environment on the other hand.
