The City Of Minneapolis Has Introduced Touchscreen And Contactless Payment Technology To Its Transport And Parking Services. Urban mobility solutions provider Flowbird has replaced the city’s kerbside kiosks with 700 CWT touch multi-use terminals, offering citizens a choice of payment options, including contactless credit or debit card, or a digital wallet such as Apple Pay and Google Pay

Off-board fare collection

This enables swift payments for on- and off-street parking in the Minneapolis/St Paul region and for off-board fare collection for Metro Transit’s bus rapid transit (BRT) system.

The 700 terminals are fully solar-powered, Americans with Disabilities Act- (ADA) compliant, and equipped with full-colour touch displays that resemble the look and feel of a tablet. The kiosks wirelessly communicate to Flowbird’s analytics platform, providing the city with tools to analyse urban mobility activity and streamline operations.

“We are extremely happy that we will continue our decade-long partnership with the City of Minneapolis using Flowbird’s latest technology,” said Benoit Reliquet, president of Flowbird North America. “We expect that citizens will be very pleased with the overall user experience provided through the large touchscreens and advanced payment options.”

The kiosks wirelessly communicate to Flowbird’s analytics platform, providing the city with tools to analyse urban mobility activity and streamline operations.

The terminals are managed using Flowbird’s cloud-based, fully-hosted back-office with bank card transactions processed through the company’s ArchiPEL banking solution. Transaction and alert information is communicated to the central system in real-time for reporting and maintenance purposes.

Plans are also underway to deploy the company’s latest self-service ticketing terminals across the city’s Orange line light rail system and its D-Line Bus Rapid Transit network over the next two years. Metro Transit originally procured the current Flowbird system in 2016 for off-board fare collection on its A-Line BRT, with a focus on quickening boarding times at each station. Flowbird Transport Intelligence is a global technology company partnering with multi-modal network owners and mass transit operators.
