Yahoo Japan Using E-Money For Telework Allowance

Yahoo Japan plans to use electronic money to pay its employees a one-off telework allowance. The tech firm says it will give the e-money equivalent of 50,000 yen, or about 470 dollars, to each of its roughly 7,800 workers, including new hires joining in April. It will use the PayPay electronic payment service. The money will cover costs related to remote working, such as buying desks, chairs or monitors. The move comes as Japan’s government considers allowing firms to shift wages to e-money. Discussions are already underway at a labor ministry panel. Yahoo officials hope their allowance program will help iron out potential problems with paying wages in digital money.
