Europe power industry contracts in January 2021: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in January 2021 with 59 contracts and a share of 43.1%, up 37% over the previous month and up 97% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Germany with 15 contracts and a share of 10.9% and Italy with 14 contracts and a share of 10.2% during the month. Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 30 contracts, followed by the UK with 18 and Germany with 13 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in January 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 73 contracts and a 64% share, followed by wind with 32 contracts and a 28.1% share and thermal with three contracts and a 2.6% share. Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in January 2021, with 72 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (23) and T&D Equipment (21).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  •     Project Implementation: 68 contracts and a 49.6% share
  •     Supply & Erection: 43 contracts and a 31.4% share
  •     Power Purchase Agreement: 14 contracts and a 10.2% share
  •     Consulting & Similar Services: nine contracts and a 6.6% share
  •     Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.2% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:
