The petition, which was filed by Advocate Waqas Anwar Gujjar, and heard by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, stated that social media applications like TikTok, Bigo Live, and Likee are a waste of time for the youth of the country.

Advocate Waqas Anwar Gujjar added in the petition that these applications were “spreading vulgarity in the society” and since Pakistan is an Islamic country, timely and swift action must be taken to protect its youth from falling prey to obscenity.

The petitioner stated that he filed an application with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) seeking a ban the social media platform but the regulator did not pay any heed to the request.

He requested the Lahore High Court (LHC) to immediately ban TikTok, Bigo Live, and Likee as these apps have claimed the lives of several youth who have died while trying to make videos for these applications.

It is pertinent to mention that PTA banned TikTok and Bigo Live last year after the management of these applications failed to comply to certain directives issued by the regulator. However, the bans were lifted after successful talks between the two parties.
