A wild Jack Ma appears!

For close to three months, the founder of Alibaba had gone missing, igniting speculation that something bad had happened to him.

The Chinese billionaire had failed to show up for the final episode of his talent show, Africa’s Business Heroes in December, 2020.

Ma M.I.A.

Ma had gone missing since October, 2020.

The 56-year-old had initially gone under the radar after he had delivered a controversial speech on October 24, 2020 where he allegedly criticized the financial supervision system in China.

He had slammed the country’s financial regulators as an “old people’s club” as they were ill-equipped to oversee the nation’s tech innovation.

Alive and well.

In a recent video speech to 100 rural Chinese teachers on January 20, 2020, Ma finally made his first public appearance after three months.

According to Tianmu News, in his video speech Ma claimed that he had been ‘learning and thinking’ and hopes that Chinese entrepreneurs serve China’s ‘rural revitalization and common prosperity’.

The agency, run by Zhejiang Daily Group, also included a 50-second video clip along with a transcript of his speech.

Ma makes an important message.

Sporting casual sweater and sneakers, Ma invited the teachers to Sanya for a face-to-face meet up once the pandemic ends.

“To support and serve rural teachers well, to do a good job of assisting education authorities, to improve education in rural areas, and to work hard for rural revitalisation and common prosperity … I think that’s the responsibility of our generation of entrepreneurs,” Ma said in the video.

He was also seen taking a look at a rural school in Hangzhou, near Alibaba headquarters in the video.

According to the Jack Ma Foundation, the billionaire had participated in the online edition of the annual Rural Teacher Initiative on January 20, 2020.

The news of Ma’s appearance led Alibaba Group Holding Ltd’s stock price to surge at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
