First, with all apologies to the Jetsons’ Rosie the Robot, it has nothing on Samsung’s Bot Handy (except maybe a better name), which Samsung’s Sebastian Seung described as “becoming an extension of you in the kitchen, in the living room, and anywhere else you may need that extra hand in your home.”
Seung watched as the black-and-white robot glided across the floor to the sink. Using its clamp hand, it loaded dirty plates into the dishwasher. It even grabs a wine glass and pours you a nice red.
“Or put away groceries,” Seung added.
The robot tosses today’s gym outfit into the wash. Waves at you when you get home, with a wink of one of its digital eyes, as if to say, “You could have employed an actual person to do this for less money than I cost.”
“Today, I’d like to introduce you to the pet of the future,” said Masahiko Yamanaka of Vanguard Industries. He’s talking about a pet with artificial intelligence.
Its name is Moflin. About the size of gerbil, it’s a fuzzy pouf that Yamanaka said learns from experiences it has with humans to develop its own personality. It provides the benefits of companionship and emotional support without the responsibility.
