Ukraine’s Energomashspetsstal (EMSS Based In Kramatorsk, Donetsk), A Subsidiary Of Rosatom’s Engineering Division Atomenergomash, Has Introduced A New Technology for manufacturing parts of steam turbine rotors for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, under construction in Turkey. EMSS specialists have mastered a new technology for the manufacture of shanks and discs for low-pressure rotors, enabling the company to successfully pass qualifications set by General Electric (GE) and to start serial production of products.“Work on the preparation of EMSS production for qualification took place over a long period and was completed in the fall of 2019.

The qualification procedure itself lasted a whole year,” said Alexander Lobanov, deputy technical director for production preparation of EMSS. “To help us achieve the goal, GE developed and sent us a qualification schedule with drawings and requirements for test products. In a short time, EMSS’ teams developed production process plans to manufacture rotor shanks and discs and got approved them by GE”.

The proof of the technical competence of EMSS was the successful accreditation of the EMSS Central Laboratory for compliance with ISO / IEC 17025: 2017, which took place in March 2020. Lobanov said the absence of defects and the uniformity of the structure of the products were confirmed by experts from Bureau Veritas and General Electric. EMSS has now begun serial production of parts for low-pressure turbine rotors for General Electric, which will be installed at the Akkuyu nuclear power plants. Orders for the manufacture of two rotors have already entered production.
