Microsoft is on a mission to add more elements to its Xbox ecosystem while keeping the players as the nucleus. Reports have surfaced that Microsoft is working on its Xbox app for iOS to make it compatible with its new strategy.

A few tweaks to this app will let the players stream the games they already own. They will also be able to stream games from their consoles to their iPhones, over a stable local connection. However, the same feature is already live in the Android version of the app.

The revamp of this app will enable the players to play the game and manage the console. Moreover, players will also be able to delete games to create more space for new titles through it.

Microsoft looking at an overall expansion
This is called Remote Play or Console streaming but differs slightly from Project xCloud that Microsoft has been marketing. Project xCloud enables the players to access the game directly from the cloud. Console streaming, on the other hand, lets the players stream the game to their phones, as it’s running on the console.

Sony, however, is already a step ahead with a fully functioning iOS console streaming app. It works in the same way and follows the same interface as the console, and includes full access to the PlayStation store.

Both the Android and the iOS apps are currently undergoing development to be complete for the launch of the new Xbox series. Microsoft hasn’t announced an official date for the launch of the iOS app. But it’s safe to assume that the company is hoping to roll it out before the consoles go live.

Microsoft currently has all hands on deck to improve the console ecosystem and enhance the gaming experience. The console war is underway and with constant developments, Microsoft is working hard to get an edge over its rivals. Only time will tell which console comes out on top and ticks more boxes than the other. Stay tuned for more updates!
