Under the agreement, a four-year BS degree in Artificial intelligence, being introduced by the institute from fall 2020, will be partnered by Huawei, according to a statement issued here on Thursday. The programme is the first academia-enterprise partnership of its kind in the country.

Under the partnership, the institute and Huawei have jointly developed curriculum for BS AI with particular emphasis on practical skills for students to gain job opportunities. The partnership will also facilitate the learning, research and development of the faculty.

The ceremony was attended by president of the institute/SOPREST board of governors Farid Rahman, executive director SOPREST Shakil Durrani, rector the institute Institute Jehangir Bashar, director Huawei ICT Academy Dr Ghulam Abbas, CEO Huawei Pakistan Mark Meng and others.

The online event was carried live on social media channels of bothHuawei Pakistan and the institute, reaching over 20,000 viewers across both the platforms.

Speaking on the occasion, Farid Rehman said the partnership provided the next generation higher level collaboration which would strengthen mutual cooperation in the field of Artificial intelligence between the two organisations, leading to economic development.

Mark Meng said that Huawei would share the best AI knowledge with the institute and that the students would have the opportunity to be linked to the industry.
