GIK Institute is the First University in Pakistan to Host First Online International Conference

On 9th–10th June 2020, (GIK)  organized the “3rd Pak-Turk international conference on Emerging Technologies in the field of Sciences and Engineering”; the first online international conference organized by any university in Pakistan. The conference comprised of Turkish, Pakistani and German speakers from around the globe.

On 9th–10th June 2020, (GIK)  organized the “3rd Pak-Turk international conference on Emerging Technologies in the field of Sciences and Engineering”; the first online international conference organized by any university in Pakistan. The conference comprised of Turkish, Pakistani and German speakers from around the globe.

Various experts and scholars who work in diverse fields participated in the conference, expressed their views, and spoke on different topics related to engineering education and scientific developments. Speakers in the two-day International Conference encouraged Pakistan to catch up on the new emerging trends in the field of science and technology, as this is vital for progress and economic prosperity.

The existence of the Covid-19 Pandemic has changed how we work, play, and learn. In the interest of the research community, GIK decided to move the conference online while trying to preserve as much of the real-life experience as possible.

It was a fully synchronous online experience that had live Q&A, participants jointly listened to presentations, and attended other live events associated with the conference. The conference accepted only 15% of the submitted articles for publishing in the IOP proceedings. The online conference was attended by almost 200 plus individuals through online video conference software. Furthermore, the conference was streamed live on Facebook making it visible and accessible to everyone and hence was able to capture an audience of 3k plus around the globe.

The purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for researchers, academicians, and practitioners to become familiar with the latest advancements and technological developments in the various fields of sciences, technology, and engineering. The conference accepted a range of papers to encourage young and experienced researchers to present their work and also the possibility of initiating mutual collaboration with international repute researchers and entrepreneurs of Pakistan and Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid SI, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Vice-Chairman (Punjab), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) was the Chief Guest in the inaugural ceremony. Engr. Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un-Nabi, (Pro-Rector, Academics), and Mr. Sardar Aminullah Khan (Pro-Rector, Administration and Finance), also participated in the conference.

The prominent Turkish and Pakistani experts who spoke in the conference were: Prof. Dr. Mahmut Boyukata, Prof. Dr. Nihal  Buyukcizmeci Dr. Necla Çakmak, Dr. Doan Aydn, Dr. Bulent Yilmaz, Dr. Fouzia Jabeen, Prof. Dr. Asghar Qadir, Prof. Dr. A. S. Bhatti, Prof. Dr. Sabieh Anwar, Prof. Dr. Fida Yunus Khattak, and various others. The Turkish scholars lauded the GIK Institute’s concentration on result-oriented research work and for organizing the first-ever online international conference.

The Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, H. E. Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul said that the whole world is transitioning and lauded the GIK Institute for taking the initiative of organizing the first-ever online international conference on emerging technologies. He further said that these technologies will define the world we know and hoped that both countries become one of the pioneers of these emerging technologies.

Engr. Jehangir Bashar, Rector of GIK Institute was the chief guest in the closing ceremony and he said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy good working relations and the interaction between the scholars and researchers of the two brotherly Muslim countries could further boost the mutual collaboration. “The GIK Institute has provided an ideal platform for such interaction and collaboration,” he said. Furthermore, he thanked the entire ETSE2020 and the organizing team for doing a wonderful job. The tireless efforts of Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un-Nabi, (Pro-Rector, Academics) were in making the conference a success were acknowledged by local and foreign speakers at the conference.
