The Shaikh Ayaz University appoints Prof. Manzoor Soomro, President, ECO Science Foundation as their Member Senate. The Senate is chaired by Governor Sindh, who is also the Chancellor of the University.

The Shaikh Ayaz University was founded as a public sector, chartered University in 2018 by the Government of Sindh, Pakistan and was named after renowned Sindhi poet Shaikh Ayaz in recognition of his contributions towards literature and education of Sindh province.

The university provides higher education to the people of northern Sindh and the areas neighbouring Balochistan. University also provides a platform for the cultural and economic activities to the peoples of surrounding areas.

In the early 17th century this emerald city in the northern Sindh province of Pakistan became the nucleus of a historical trade center on a caravan route through the Bolan Pass into Afghanistan. Shikarpur became the core of manufactures including brass and metal goods, carpets, cotton cloth, and embroidery. Its great bazaar (covered because of the summer heat) is famous throughout Turkistan and southern Asia.

It is hoped that the newly established university will attempt to revive the past glory of the city, as a hub of trade and manufacturing, and at least in some key areas that the city has always been popular for.

Prof. Soomro brings a vast experience of around 40 years in scientific research, formal and non-formal teaching, community development, strategic planning and management as well as networking and collaboration at international level.

Currently, Dr Soomro is serving as President ECO Science Foundation, and also the Vice President of China’s “Belt and Road International Science Education Coordinating Committee (BRISECC)” and Member of numerous international associations / forums / platforms including; Inter-Academy Partnership Science Education Programme (IAP SEP), Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC) Malaysia, Asian Innovation Forum based in Seoul and La main a la pate Foundation of France.

Dr. Soomro would certainly contribute well towards the uplift of the budding young university in a city that was hub of education and trade in times of British India.
