Ministry of Commerce has revealed that it shared the names of 38 exporters with the global e-commerce platform Amazon for registration.

During the second meeting of the National e-Commerce Council, the details were shared. In the meeting, the implementation of different policies at federal and provincial levels were reviewed to promote e-commerce. Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razzak Dawood led the meeting.

In the meeting, the Commerce Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar said that the commerce ministry is regularly engaged in its foreign trade missions aiming to promote trade and explore new markets for exporters.

He said, “Initially, a list of 38 exporters have been communicated to Amazon, which is limited to surgical, sports goods and home textiles sectors.”

After the meeting, an official announcement was issued in which the advisor informed the participants regarding the progress in the e-Commerce Policy since it was approved in October 2019.

He highlighted that the e-commerce trend has rapidly increased in recent times with the internet’s development and easy accessibility. He emphasized the importance of directing the resources for digital adoption and linking the small and medium enterprises to e-platforms worldwide along with looking for new market access opportunities for them

The State Bank of Pakistan officials shared the progress update and said that the regulatory framework for the facilitation of cross border, business-to-consumer e-commerce has been built. Further adding that it will be adopted following integration with the e-commerce module which would be developed by the Federal Board of Revenue in WeBoC.
