Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Announced for PS5

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has been announced for PS5. It’s the second PS5 game announced today by Insomniac Games, after the just-announced Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

A sequel to the 2016 remake/reboot of the series, it will be coming to the PlayStation 5. Insomniac revealed the new game with an extended gameplay look during its PlayStation 5 games reveal event.

A PlayStation Blog post explains that the game “showcases what’s possible for games designed around PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD and DualSense wireless controller.”

We also get a sense of the gameplay, with the post continuing: “Players will seamlessly travel through different dimensions in mid-gameplay, thanks to PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD. The DualSense wireless controller brings combat to life, with haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers adding powerful sensations that increase immersion in combat.”

Ratchet and Clank first debuted on the PS2, with a number of sequels on PS2 and PS3, finally making its return on the PS4, and in our Ratchet and Clank review we called the PS4 entry “a culmination of everything Insomniac has done with the series over the past 14 years.” The game debuted alongside a film that was not as well received, but the reboot’s success on PS4 left many fans hoping to see the intergalactic adventures of the titular duo continue.

This announcement is the second Insomniac game announced after Sony acquired the studio as a first-party developer. Insomniac has long developed major exclusives for PlayStation consoles, and is now operating as an exclusive, first-party dev.
