Ignite – National Technology Fund in collaboration with Code for Pakistan had organized the SDG Weekend 2017 on August 19-20, 2017 at National Incubation Center Islamabad. This event is supported by International Telecom Union (ITU) and ISOC are participating as Global Partners whereas Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Code for Pakistan are co-organizer.

While talking to Technology Times Mr. Yusuf Hussain CEO Ignite- National Technology Fund said that main objective of Hackathon and startup competition is seeking to do what market economies of the world are not addressing so we get can best teams, individuals and ideas out of this. So, ignite will help them in future with funding, networking, world bank and UNDP to solve problems like fighting hunger, poverty and to provide education and health.

He further added Ignite will looking commercial apps which would actually make an impact to address real problems in the society.

Hackathons have become more or less like a global movement to gather computer geeks on a single platform; so that they transform their great many entrepreneurial ideas into sustainable products. In Pakistan as, developed country its good news for IT industry and people who have been wanting to set up tech startups, since ever.

National Hackathon had completely focused on the eight Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 36-hour session.  Selected SDGs for participants to focus their projects and solutions on are Good Health & Well-Being Quality Education, Industry Innovation & Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption and Production. Skilled applicants of web or mobile development had participated in this event to take part in progress of Pakistan and had showed their talent in this opportunity.

The SDG Hackathon will bring together programmers, designers, urban mappers, data analysts, community organizers, researchers, journalists, and government information to reboot local services by creating open source web, mobile, and SMS applications.

IT industry, promoting a positive image worldwide, indulging the nation in more productive ventures and most importantly developing the economy as an end result. Because it is the small ideas and ventures that end up making the biggest changes, after all.
