Karachi-As much as fifty meritorious students of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) were awarded laptops under the Prime Ministers Laptop Scheme.


An IBA statement on Monday said that a ceremony to this effect was held at the Governor House. President Mamnoon Hussain, was the chief guest. Governor Sindh and patron of IBA Karachi, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed , Dr. Sayeed Ghani – Acting Dean and Director IBA, were also present at the ceremony held at the Governor House on Saturday.


Dr. Sayeed Ghani, Acting Dean and Director IBA, in his remarks welcomed ahe distinguished guests. He congratulated the 50 students of IBA, selected from 316 students from different disciplines (PhD/MS programs in Maths and Computer Sciences and various Undergraduate programs), who were awarded with laptops purely on merit.


He said that such initiatives by the government, assist learning in our youth, establish a culture of research and since Haier is manufacturing these laptops in Lahore, it is a very progressive step for Pakistan and will help reinforce the RandD culture. He also urged the students to use these laptops for the progression of their studies and the country.


Dr. Sayeed also thanked President Mamnoon Hussain and BoG member IBA, Shahid Shafiq for making this event possible. Addressing the audience, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed (Chairman HEC) said that it is an established fact that a countrys economic development is determined by its intellectual capital. The significant results include that the percentage of higher education has increased from 2.6 percent of collage age students (17-21) to 8.26 percent in last ten years.
