STAFF REPORT ISB: Students of different universities displayed solutions that can change the way we live, work and play at the national final for Imagine Cup 2016 recently organised by the HEC and Microsoft.


HEC Executive Director Dr. Arshad Ali was chief guest on the occasion. Microsoft Pakistan Country Head Nadeem A. Malik and HEC Director General (IT) Anwar Amjad also attended the event.


Imagine Cup is a global student technology programme and competition that provides opportunities for students across all disciplines to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications, games and integrate solutions that can change the way we live, work and play.


This year there were over 100 projects from universities across the country. A total of 187 students participated in various kinds of projects that have been broadly placed in Gaming, Innovation and World Citizenship.


The contest in Innovation was clinched by team from Comsats Institute of Information Technology, Sahiwal, comprising Nida Karim, SohaibHanif and Umairullah. The team from National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST), Faisalabad including Roger Nazir and Usman Khan topped the World Citizenship category, while Kasra Zunnayyer from University of Karachi won the Gaming competition. The winner teams will participate in the world semi-finals to be held online.


HEC has been working with Microsoft for the last seven years to execute Imagine Cup in Pakistan and, the participation in this competition has been phenomenal. Over the last seven years, more than 1.65 million students from more than 190 countries have participated in the Imagine Cup.
