STAFF REPORT ISB: The highly sophisticated technologies such as Remote Sensing (RS) can be optimally utilized for water resource management. This was tendered by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) during an exclusive meeting with the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).


The IRSA delegation during the meeting urged PCRWR to employ these RS technology and also hoped for collaboration in this regard.


Chairman IRSA, Rao Irshad Ali Khan identified various applications of RS in water resource management including monitoring of surface water flows, water diplomacy, and areas that require effective administrative measures to stop the outflow of water channels.


PCRWR representatives including researchers welcomed the suggestion and said that inclusion of these technologies in the organizations technological arsenal would be a great addition and can offer cost effective and precise monitoring in terms of water resource management.


It is pertinent to mention that satellite imagery and use of remote sensing techniques for its interpretation are the most advanced practices worldwide for better water resource management and improving the policies on it due to better monitoring. The agreement between both organizations will definitely bring a notable change and shift of policies in terms of water resource management.
