STAFF REPORT ISB: The illegal use of cordless phones DECT 6.0 disrupts the operations of authorized users of spectrum due to overlapping and disruption in the frequency. The service interference complaints were noted by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and upon several meetings on this issue, PTA decides to ban the illegal import, sale, distribution and use of DECT 6.0 cordless phones.

The meetings of PTA were conducted in various zones including Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, and Quetta.

PTA official said while commenting on the decision, “The stern crackdown and legal action must be taken against the elements that will be screened for infringement of the decision. The illegal use of DECT 6.0 is completely banned from now on wards and guilty elements will be directly reported to law enforcement agencies like FIA”.

The vendors of telecommunication equipment are sensitized on this and special care should be fetched in this regard in order to avoid any inconvenience due to violation of the decision. This decision is certainly an appreciable step of PTA to curtail the grey factors and ensure network security. PTA also takes strict action against grey traffickers in different cities which were responsible for causing huge frequency overlapping and affecting on authorized communication.
