STAFF REPORT LHR: The Pakistan Agriculture Forum (PAF) has advised growers to grow canola and mustard along with wheat to avoid aphid attacks.

“The aphid attack has been increasing on wheat for few years and insects sucked juice from plants and stopped their growth,” said Ibrahim Mughal, the Chairman PAF, while addressing a recently held seminar in the city.

He said that it was difficult to handle the aphid attack on wheat because sprays could not be carried out on wheat as it was injurious to health and killed wheat friendly insects as well.

Ibrahim also said that canola and mustard be grown in lining at a distance of 100 feet from wheat as it was the best and cheapest method to control the attack.

“By adopting the method wheat aphids will first attack on canola and mustard instead of wheat,” he said adding that the wheat friendly insects which growed on canola also played a vital role in eating wheat aphids.
