STAFF REPORT IBD:The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) would confer its most prestigious award for International Cooperation upon Professor Dr. Atta ur Rehman in a ceremony to be held in Beijing on January 10.
This award has been announced in recognition of the tremendous efforts of Prof. Atta-ur-Rehman in building strong collaborations with China in the field of science and technology.
It is the first time that the award has been given to any scientist from a developing country.
A book entitled “The Wondrous World of Science” by Prof. Atta-ur-Rehman has been translated into Chinese language and will be published for mass distribution in China in 2014.
Initiated in 2007, the award for International Scientific Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is to commend and honour those eminent foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to facilitating cooperation with CAS in science and technology to encourage more efforts
Seventy nine students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision.
Prof. Rehman is the first scientist from the Muslim world to have won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999) in the 35-year-old history of the Prize. He was elected as Fellow of Royal Society (London) in July 2006.
