STAFF REPORT IBD: Higher education is the key to the nations socio-economic development and the universities need to impart quality education to students to help them compete in the contemporary digital world.


“There is no dearth of talent in the country as many talented youth had demonstrated their metal at the national and international level,” said President Mamnoon Hussain while addressing the 6th convocation of Quaid-e-Azam University recently held at the Convention Centre here.


He called upon the universities to pay greater attention to devise educational and research programs relevant to the present and future development needs of the country.


He said it was also highly imperative for the universities to produce individuals with strong character and moderate temperament to build a just and tolerable society.


He apprised the audience of the latest achievements of the QAU and mentioned that the university was at the number one ranking by Higher Education Commission among medium size universities of the country for the last four years.


He said that 75 per cent of the faculty holds a PhD degree while 36 percent student body comprises M.Phil/Ph.D.


Later, President Mamnoon Hussain awarded degrees and medals to the distinguished students. Vice Chancellor Dr Yasinzai presented souvenir to the President.


As many as 1708 students were given degrees in Masters program, 786 in M.Phil and 181 in Ph.D.
