CallcentreSTAFF REPORT IBD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom have agreed to share each others expertise for proliferation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the country.
It was agreed during the visit of high level delegation of IT Ministry to HEC. HEC Executive Director Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed apprised the delegation about the working, functions and role of HEC for strengthening higher education sector in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid R Laghari said that the Digital Library at the HEC provides access to 75 per cent of the worlds literature in addition to offering the video conferencing facility at 79 sites having footprints in 32 cities throughout the country.
He also informed that due to revolutionary reforms in the sector, Pakistani universities have been included among the top world and Asian universities and Pakistani higher education model is being followed by other Asian countries.
The delegation was apprised of the National and Regional Data Centers established by HEC in Islamabad and provincial centers which are hosting ICT services to higher education sector.
The delegation was led by Secretary IT Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir accompanied by Additional Secretary Muhammad Ijaz, Joint Secretary Admin Ali Asghar, Joint Secretary Development M Anwar Sheikh and others. They acknowledged that HEC has functioned extremely well and has delivered during the last decade.
