STAFF REPORT IBD: The Pakistan Post has released a commemorative postage stamp of Rs. 15 denomination on the occasion of achievement of commercial operations by the first ever wind power project in Pakistan.

The 50 MW wind power project has been developed at Jhimpir, District Thatta, Sindh by the FFC Energy Limited with the facilitation of Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB). President Asif Ali Zardari inaugurated the project on 24th December 2012 at Jhimpir.

The completion of the first wind power project of the country is a significant milestone achieved as now Pakistan stands amongst the nations utilizing this clean and renewable source of energy for electric power generation.

According to the Alternative Energy Development Board, already 4 other projects of 50 MW or more are under construction and dozens under preparation.

“We have more investors and can generate more power than what the grid can accept at the moment” stated an AEDB spokesperson.

With the use of this indigenous and renewable source of energy Pakistans reliance on imported fuels will decrease, thus adding to the energy security of the country.

The Thatta corridor presents good wind resource and theoretically over 48000 MW can be installed here. Pakistan has planned to induct Clean Green New Renewable and Alternative Energy in the Pakistan energy mix.
