STAFF REPORT IBD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has provided Rs.276.43 million for 53 research and development programmes during the last three years.

In addition to that, the total investments in the form of grants disbursed under the Prime Ministers National ICT Scholarship Programme during the said period was Rs 979 million and the basic objective was to promote IT education among the youth.

According to an official of the IT ministry said that the total investments in the form of grants disbursed under the IT Industry Apprenticeship Programme during the period stood at Rs 17.043 million while under the National ICT Grassroots Research Initiative Programme, the government disbursed Rs 27 million.

He said in order to create awareness about Basic IT Equipments and IT Education, Ministry of IT has already taken steps for introduction of IT at schools levels through different projects regarding establishment of labs at Federal and Provincial level.

In this regard, the official said Federal government has spent Rs.905.424 million for promotion of IT education at schools level.
