STAFF REPORT IBD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology has directed the Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to co-ordinate with other quality control laboratories to meet the international standard requirements.
The committee has recently met here with Dr Abdul Kadir Khanzada in the chair. Director General PSQCA briefed the committee about the objects, mission focus and further planning of the organisation.
The representative of the PSQCA informed the body about the projects of the organisations in progress. The committee was informed that object of the Authority is to set up standards on quality and dimensions, preparation and promotion of general adoption of Pakistan Standards Specifications, operation of Certification Marks Scheme and Co-ordination of the efforts of manufacturers and consumers for the improvement of standardization and provide assistance in the manufacture of quality products.
Secretary Ministry of SandT informed the committee about the role of the PSQCA, saying that its contribution is voluntarily, not mandatory.
He further informed that the cottage industry of the country has been given two years to regularise themselves according to the ISO standards.
Chairman Dr Abdul Kadir Khanzada said that the committee will visit four provinces of the country to check the performance of PSQCA and other attached departments of the Ministry.
