Policy shifts are must for water sustainability: Speakers

START REPORT KHI: The water resources of Pakistan are becoming 
extensively scarce and there is a need to sensitize water conservation and underline 
water governance issues of the country. The US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced 
Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) organized seminar on ‘Water governance in 
Pakistan’ to highlight and prompt the policy makers with the rapidly shrinking 
water resources and storage capacity due to increasing consumption and climate 
change impacts. 
The seminar was co organized by Mehran University of Engineering & 
Technology (MUET), Jamshoro and the University of Utah, USA.
MUET Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqaili was also present on the 
occasion. He said that the newly established USAID-funded USPCAS-W will be 
very helpful to resolve the impending water challenges of Pakistan through its 
applied research and various other productive initiatives.
A the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between the MUET 
and various institutions and agencies, including Pakistan Council of Research in 
Water Resources (PCRWR), Sindh Irrigation Drainage Authority (SIDA) and 
Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. 
The experts in water resource management, faculty members, students, scientists, 
researchers and general public participated in the seminar. The experts underlined 
that the existing social, economic and administrative system of Pakistan lacks to 
suffice the water conservation needs and serious efforts and policy shifts are
