Pakistan Set To Launch National Space Policy To Propel Space Sector Growth

The Federal Cabinet of Pakistan is poised to greenlight the National Space Policy (NSP), marking a pivotal step in the country’s foray into the realm of space exploration.

The approval is anticipated alongside the ratification of decisions from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases (CCLC). Prime Minister has convened a crucial cabinet meeting on Wednesday, featuring an eleven-point agenda that includes the landmark NSP.

One of the key highlights of the National Space Policy is the establishment of a National Space Agency within the country. This agency is envisioned to play a central role in steering Pakistan’s endeavors in space exploration, setting a strategic direction for the nation’s activities beyond Earth.

As part of the policy, satellite service providers intending to operate within Pakistan will be required to register themselves and obtain a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC), ensuring regulatory oversight in this burgeoning sector.

The NSP aims to elevate the role of the space sector in Pakistan, fostering a conducive environment for mission activities and fostering collaboration between research institutions, educational entities, start-ups, and industry players. By promoting public-private partnerships, the policy seeks to unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation in the space domain.

In a noteworthy administrative move, the Federal Cabinet is likely to approve the termination of the Managing Director of the National Telecommunication Corporation, signaling a strategic shift in the leadership of this critical organization. Simultaneously, discussions will ensue on the appointment of a new Managing Director for the Korangi Fisheries Harbor Authority in Karachi, aligning with the government’s focus on effective governance and management.

As the Federal Cabinet gears up for this comprehensive meeting, the approval of the NSP stands out as a monumental step, signaling Pakistan’s ambitions to become a key player in the global space arena and laying the groundwork for a transformative journey into the cosmos.
