China Launches National Data platform To Digitize Rice Industry Chain

The nation’s first national big data platform for the entire rice industry chain was launched by China on Sunday with the goal of advancing the sector’s digitization and information construction.

The Nanfan Silicon Valley Forum and the 2023 China Seed Conference took place in Sanya, Hainan, from April 1 to 4. The National Rice Industry Chain Big Data Platform, the first rice industry chain big data application service platform in China, was formally introduced at the rice industry chain development forum on 2nd.

The capital construction project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is funding the national rice industry chain big data platform, which is run by the China Rice Research Institute.

It then transforms the pertinent data of production factors (grain resources, breeding, planting, diseases and pests, soil, agricultural resources, etc.), circulation prices, trade markets, and enterprise entities into the available insights. To advance the digitalization and informationalization of the rice industry, the analysed standard database and the redevelopment specification have interfaces for data replacement and sharing.

The Xinhua News Agency said that the platform focuses on the generation, collection, storage, processing, analysis, and service of data related to the rice industry in China in order to open up the entire industry chain of production, storage, marketing, trade, consumption, and science and technology.

It also aims to further the application of big data in the rice industry and advance the digitization and information construction of China’s rice industry.

According to Xu Chunchun, deputy director of the Rice Science & Technology Information Center at the China National Rice Research Institute, authoritative rice-related index reports will be regularly released after the platform’s launch and implementation to enhance the industry’s overall service level and capacity.

To create a rice digital ecosystem with complete coverage of digital production, full transformation of scientific and technological capabilities, and complete connectivity of service networks, it will eventually be upgraded from a data platform to a service platform, according to Xu.

In order to achieve scientific analysis of various business scenarios, the rice industry big data platform will have five analysis models, ten business application systems, one comprehensive portal, and a mobile app, according to chinanews.com. For instance, according to Xu, the platform can use statistical analysis to direct rice production in order to prevent diseases, pests, and natural disasters.
