South African President Cyril Ramaphosa Is Scheduled To Address The Nation Later On Sunday On Developments In The Country’s Response To The COVID-19 Pandemic. The presidency announced that the planned address will be aired live on national media to reach all South Africans.

The address comes following meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council, the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet. South Africa remains to be the hardest-hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa.

The country’s 2,179,297 infections account for 36.82 percent of the total cases recorded in Africa, while its 64,138 deaths account for 42.41 percent of virus-related fatalities registered on the continent.

In efforts to contain further spread of the virus, the South African government has put in place various measures, including the mandatory wearing of face masks. A mass vaccination exercise is also currently underway, with 4,225,021 jabs of the vital jabs already given.
