Free-Urdu-Language-Technology-Services-Released

CLE NLP Webservices can now be accessed for free. APIs of Urdu speech, text and image processing services can be used for the development of apps, websites and services.

Center for Language Engineering (CLE) has introduced CLE NLP Webservices (https://tech.cle.org.pk/) for free, starting from August 14th, 2020. It is a platform of Urdu Natural Language Processing (NLP) resources for developers, which can be used for developing apps, websites and services. The motivation behind this initiative is to create opportunities for Pakistani public to access information and communication technologies in their national language, so it can be used for their socio-economic benefit.

CLE NLP Webservices is offering its Urdu web services in speech, text and image processing. Its speech processing feature processes and converts Urdu speech into text and vice versa. Similarly, text processing analyzes unstructured Urdu content and extracts relevant lexical, syntactical, and semantical information. Image processing feature extracts text from scanned Urdu documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

CLE NLP Webservices has been made available for free for developers and general public. This move comes in response after CLE examined the prevalent gap in terms of availability and accessibility of technology localization products in Urdu language. All of the web services are now available and can be accessed without any upfront or hidden charges.

CLE, under the umbrella of Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, is conducting research and development in linguistic and computational aspects of languages, specifically of Pakistan and developing Asia.
