SEGA-announcement-teased-that-will-rile-up-the-video-games-industry

SEGA fans have been teased that a major announcement is happening next week that will “rile up” the video games industry.

SEGA are rumoured to have a huge, “revolutionary” announcement in the works that will be dropping next week. The major scoop is set to be revealed in the next issue of iconic Japanese video gaming magazine Famitsu. The SEGA reveal will coincide with the company’s 60th anniversary and is said be an announcement on par with Sony confirming the first official details of the PS5.

The tantalising tease was dropped by Japanese technology journalist Zenji Nishikawa, who said the news will appear in the June 4 issue of Famitsu.

Nishikawa-san said the news will “rile up the games industry” and that it’s an exclusive scoop about a “game company that everyone loves”.

The journalist later reportedly confirmed that the incoming announcement was released to SEGA.

According to a post by Gematsu, Nishikawa-san said: “My column in next week’s issue of Famitsu is crazy. I got a huge scoop…it’s a world premiere article.PROMOTED STORY

“And an exclusive. It may not be Nikkei or Weekly Bunshun, but if you want to know if it’s a scoop that’s big…it totally is!

“It’s a scoop from a game company that everyone loves. An insane scoop. Last year, Wired got the exclusive story on PlayStation 5, right?

“Other media didn’t. It’s that level of a scoop. I interviewed a certain company’s executive and technical staff, it’s really revolutionary…really, it’s a revolution.

“It’ll be in Famitsu next Thursday. I already sent in my manuscript, so the proofs are being made now.

“It’s a scoop on a level that when the story comes out, other media will make a fuss to the company like, ‘Why didn’t you let us cover it?’

“Maybe people will say, ‘Who was the first to break that story?’, ‘It was Zenji Nishikawa, right?’

“It’s a scoop as major as the PlayStation 5 scoop. I just wanted to say that in advance.

“I can’t say [anything more] here, but it’s OK for me to tease it (laughs).

“I was told that it’s OK to do so at various meetings. It’s being talked about in other places. Just not by the media.

“It’ll rile up the games industry.”

It’s unclear what exactly this major SEGA announcement will be but there has been plenty of speculation from fans on ResetEra.

In a thread of the message board gamers speculated whether the news will be the long-rumoured acquisition of SEGA by Microsoft.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer had previously said his firm were looking to acquire a Japanese studio, and getting SEGA onboard would be a huge coup.

The other announcement ResetEra members speculated on was the Xbox Series X being distributed under the SEGA banner in Japan.

That also would be an incredibly smart move, given how historically Xbox consoles have failed to make much of a sales impact in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Having SEGA branding on the next Xbox could be a great way to boost sales in Japan, especially considering SEGA haven’t released a home console since the Dreamcast.

Alternatively, this Famitsu scoop is dropping on the same day that the rumoured PS5 reveal event is meant to be taking place – Thursday June 4.

So, the SEGA scoop that could “rile up” the video games industry could be related to Sony.

This all remains to be seen, but whatever the announcement June 4 is definitely a date you’ll want to mark down in your diaries.
