Govt to prohibit plastic bags in ICT by August 14

The government is currently working on a plan to proscribe single use plastic bags in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) by August 14, as informed by the minister for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul to the National Assembly.

Govt to prohibit plastic bags in ICT by August 14As an substitute to plastic bags, the ministry has distributed 5,000 cotton bags amongst parliamentarians, media personnel and officials of Ministry of Climate Change, employees of the Federal government to combat the menace of raising plastic pollution.

Moreover, several cotton bags are being procured for distribution in Juma and ltwaar bazars and various markets without any penny of cost just to raise awareness campaign on the hazards plastics bags that for the most part hit the eco-friendly environment.

Keeping in line, the Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) had conducted a detailed survey of Industrial Estate of Islamabad and takes preemptive measures and introduces environment friendly bio-degradable shopping bags in collaboration with four companies.

Pak-EPA, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) and all associations of industries are working together for the first model green industrial zone of Pakistan and all essential steps are being taken under the green and clean initiative of Prime Minister of Pakistan.
