Confer to that, the Punjab government has decided to encourage private sector investment for research to enhance Cotton output especially by controlling the Cotton Leaf Curl Virus (CLCV) disease.

Cotton is a very important cash crop for Pakistan and Punjab has a well-known place in its yield in the country. The priority of the government is to augment area under cultivation of cotton and it’s per acre yield.

The government is as long as afford funds for research in cotton according to its resources and also paying considerations to develop connection with the international research organizations in this regard.

 The international agricultural expert emphasized on monitoring Cotton Leaf Curl Virus in the province. It is predictable that US$ 0.77 million would be needed to implement this project which after approval will be worn-out in collaboration with the government and private sector.

Prominent agricultural scientists Dr Albert appraised the conference about a project of monitoring of CLCV and its control. Additional Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Dr Ghazanfar Ali, Director General (Research) Abid Mahmood, Director General Agriculture (Extension) Dr Anjum Ali and others attended the meeting.
