The Asia Pacific regional preparatory meeting for the 2019 being organized in cooperation with the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Asia and Pacific Region in China (BCRC-China) from 4 to 6 March 2019 in Suzhou, China.
The meeting pursue by information sessions on integrating a gender perspective in the sound management of chemicals and waste and on the Minamata Convention on Mercury on 7th March.
Additionally, there will be a Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) day on 8th March 2019.
The objective of the regional preparatory meeting is to give Parties within the Asia Pacific region the possibility to consult each other in advance of the 2019 COPs, consider meeting documents, discuss substantive matters, identify regional priorities and challenges, and facilitate the preparation of regional positions.
Dr. Zaigham Abbasi, Deputy Director (Chemical)/NPC NIP Project, Ministry of Climate Change, Islamabad leaded the Basel Convention in the region. He discussed with diverse parties the regional positions on substances of the agendas of the meetings to identify the needs of country and the difficulties faced by our country with regard to barring the import of hazardous wastes.
