DoAM digitized 5,000 artifacts to preserve cultural heritage

Department of Archeology and Museums (DoAM) functioning under National History and Literary Heritage Division (NH&LH) was given task to digitalize 5,000 preferred artifacts and create 3D images of inimitable substance to preserve cultural heritage.

DoAM has completed the digitalization of 5,000 artifacts through its Digitalization Center to present electronic database for scholars to conduct research, conserve this cultural heritage and prevent prohibited trafficking of archaeological objects.

Subsequent to the establishment of digitalization center for documentation of the artifacts and archival material the project of digitalization of the artifacts was started quickly in the DoAM.

DoAM Director Archeology Abdul Azeem observed that preservation and documentation has always been a matter of concern for the academic research of the convenient and immovable cultural wealth of the country.

The department will digitize the absolute catalog with DoAM in phases which will be replicated by all the provinces so that a national inventory can be created.

Abdul Azeem informed that the digitized record of an artifact carries all essential information about the object while 3-D images of the artifacts made in dissimilar angles through the latest cameras are immense source of preservation.

So, the continuation and protection of artifacts next to damage or burglary was always a challenge for museums and other conservation organizations, the most modern technologies of digitization through 3-D images of the artifacts can contributed a lot for preservation of this cultural asset.
