STAFF REPORT KHI: Keeping in view the financial problems of 19 public sector universities, the Sindh government has approved a grant of Rs1.9 billion for completion of their development schemes.


Secretary to Chief Minister for Universities and Board Iqbal Durani held a meeting with the vice chancellors of public universities in Karachi to review their on-going schemes. During the meeting, the VCs told the secretary that they were facing acute shortage of funds to complete their schemes. They had requested the Sindh government to give them a grant so that they could complete their uplift works.


The chief minister, on a summary moved by his secretary, approved a grant of Rs1.9 billion under which each of the 19 universities would get a sum of Rs100 million. The universities and education institutions which have been granted Rs100 million each are Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad; LUMHS Jamshoro; Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi; Karachi University, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Shaheed Benazirabad, Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, Dw University of Engineering, Science and technology, Nawabshah, Saheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary and Animal Science, Sakrand, Sindh Madressatul Islam University Karachi, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, University of Sindh Jamshoro, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Shaheed Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Lyari Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University of Law, Karachi, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Sukkur and Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi.
