STAFF REPORT KHI: The University of Karachi (UoK) International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (ASRT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).-


The main objective of the MoU is to cooperate and develop activities related to the fields of natural products, medicinal plant chemistry, pharmacology of herbal medicine, drug delivery system, and others.


This MoU was signed under the auspices of Economic Cooperation Organisation Science Foundation (ECO-SF) at a special ceremony held recently at UoK Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD).


President ECOSF Prof. DrManzoor Hussain Soomro, Dr Sonia Siddiqui of ICCBS-UoK and other officials were also present on the occasion.


In his remarks, Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said that ICCBS-UoK under the agreement would offer fellowships to 10 students, PhD scholars, post-doctoral from Tajikistan.


“The training can be imparted on to Tajik technicians, students and faculty members to gain knowledge on sophisticated equipments available in the ICCBS. Bi-institutional workshops will be conducted every year; one year in Pakistan and other year in Tajikistan,” he said.


Prof. Zayniddin said that ASRT incorporated 20 research institutions and three territorial groupings. He also praised the scientific facilities available at the ICCBS-UoK, and declared it one of the finest research establishments in the developing world.
