STAFF REPORT ISB: The internet access to all was the motive behind the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) and the Internet Society (ISOC).

According to the MoU, both the organizations agreed to launch the pilot project Wireless for Communities (W4C) at Chak Faiz located near Multan. The idea behind the project is to provide internet access to underserved rural communities through community empowerment approach using WiFi based technologies.

Amir Malik, CEO of COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) said while sharing his thoughts on the project, “COMSATS Internet Services has been involved with community building efforts through projects like our Tele-Health network, and we are always looking for opportunities to use available resources to help empower the marginalized community. Our collaboration with ISOC for the Wireless for Communities programme will be a beneficial initiative to provide internet services to the remote community in Chak Faiz”.

The literary circles believe that this programme will improve the lives of people in rural areas by offering online access and promoting e-services. It will hopefully contribute directly to an increased level of awareness concerning the benefits of ICTs and lead to ideas for more livelihoods.
