STAFF REPORT ISB: The olive cultivation can improve the growth of agriculture and food commodities and will increase the share in fulfilling the domestic need. Taking the resolve of improving olive cultivation, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) has signed MoU with Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR). The agreement took place in order to share the expertise and instigate olive cultivation at large scale in Cholistan and Baluchistan areas.


According to the MoU, PARC will technically assist PCRWR in executing the project by providing olive plants and installation of solar panels for growing olive and other plants by drip irrigation system.


Chairman PARC, Dr Iftikhar Ahmad was present on the occasion. He said while addressing to the participants, “The olive sector development is one of the priorities of PARC and this partnership with PCRWR is the start of a new era which will become the custodian of development of this sector thus contributing to the motive of sustainable development”.


Dr Nasir Mehmoo Cheema, National Project Director, Olive said, “Olive is one of the marginal land commodity and the land in Cholistan and Balochistan which is not appropriate for other crops will be used for olive and other fruit plants cultivation under this project”.


At the occasion Chairman PCRWR said that we have demonstration forms in Cholistan and Balochistan and we will make them demonstration centres for farmers with the help of PARC and new technology will be provide to serve the plan.
