STAFF REPORT KHI: Karachi, the cosmopolitan city of Pakistan is yet to become Smart City having solar street lights, CCTV cameras and the demanding Wifi facilities. The Government of Sindh (GoS) has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with three companies based in Dubai, China and USA for installation of those systems in the city.


The Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Memon said that the first phase of the project will be completed by the end of this year that will include modern solar street lights, free Wifi and CCTV camera installation in the city starting from Do-Talwar Clifton to Shahra-e- Faisal. The estimated cost of first phase of project is $20 million; whereas total cost is expected to be $200 million.


The project will facilitate citizens as well as law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the city making it tech savvy as well as crime free. The adaptation of such initiatives is highly commendable job and role of technology is imperative in any sector development including social sector and to make it available for general public will certainly help in attaining the goals of technological advancement that yield imprints for social harmony and national integration.
