STAFF REPORT ISB: Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, renowned biotechnologist has been elected as new president of National Council of Tibb (NCT) for 5 years. The decision was made in special meeting which was presided by Federal Minister of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHS, RandC) Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar.


Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari while speaking on the occasion said, “It is my pleasure that I am being entrusted to this prestigious position that shoulders great responsibilities on me. I will put my utmost efforts in reforming the NCT and curtailing different challenges in the field of indigenous medicine to bring the neglected area into main stream of the economy”.


Prof Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari is also the Secretary General of Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) and Chairman of Biotechnology Department of Quaid e Azam University (QAU). He is the author of several critically acclaimed books in the areas of plant wealth and medicinal value of different plants. Prof Dr Zabta had served as Vice Chancellor of the Kohat University of Science and Technology.


In recognition of his extravagant work in science ethics he was recently declared as winner of UNESCO’s AVICENNA Prize 2015 making him first in the subcontinent and fourth in the world to achieve this title.
